Professional eighth note beaming in Finale

By default, Finale’s beam groupings are not ideal. Specifically, when three eighth notes are beamed together they look like a triplet.

Using the following steps to fix this:

  1. Go to Document > Document Options > Beams.
  2. Uncheck “Beam Three Eighth Notes Before/After an Eighth Rest”.
  3. Click “OK”.
  4. Select your entire score ( ⌘A (macOS) or Ctrl+A (Windows) ).
  5. Select Utilities > Rebeam > Rebeam Music to apply the change.

That’s it! Your beams should now look like the following image:

Pro tip: Also make sure “Beam Four Eighth Notes Together in Common Time” is checked for professional quality beaming.
